WIDE-FIELD DIGITAL RETINAL IMAGING
A NEW PARADIGM FOR ROP MANAGEMENT

Wide-Field (Digital) Imaging:
  • Can we image the entire retina?
  • With this capability, what new vistas are open for remote consultation?
  • Are there special instances where this capability can radically improve quality of care?

Wide-field imaging: key concepts
  • Field-of-view: The instantaneous field-of -view (FOV).
  • Field-of-regard (FOR): Total field of imaging available with camera.
  • RetCam 120 has a large FOV and ready access to a superb FOR.

FOR is at a minimum equator to equator.
  • With scleral depression the ora serrata can be imaged.
  • Without depression, FOR is about 200 degrees (retina is about 225 degrees.

RetCam 120 fills the need for wide-field imaging and is fully digital.
  • Efficient assessment and monitoring. Nearly the entire retina is documented with only five images.
  • Real-time imaging display provides immediate feedback.
  • Inexpensive digital image storage on CD’s eliminates film.
  • Retrieve and manage patient information with built-in image database.
  • Image transmission to colleagues.

The camera has remarkable image quality for a panoramic imaging system.
  • Optical resolution is same as CCD pixel size (about 36 microns) at boundary and twice as good in central region.
  • Image distortion is negligible: There is an excellent mapping of angle onto CCD coordinate.
